Safe Contact

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI)

Hunting Hills High School promotes a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects and reflects the diversity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit, intersex, queer or questioning students, staff, families, and community members. Our Safe Contact for 2019-20 is Ms. Sue Merry - Sue.Merry@rdpsd.ab.ca
A safe contact is a staff member identified by the principal to support staff and students who identify themselves as LGBTQ+. This staff member works to promote RDPSD policy: "The Board will provide an environment for all members of the school community to work and learn, free from fear, discrimination, and harassment, while also promoting pro-active strategies and establishing guidelines to ensure that sexual and gender minority students, employees and families are welcomed and included in all aspects of education and school life, and are treated with respect and dignity." Board Policy 19 (RDPSD)
Students may discuss issues with the safe contact with assurances of privacy and confidentiality. "The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act shall govern the disclosure of personal information by the school authority. The district shall maintain the right of LGTBQ+ students and staff to privacy and confidentiality regarding their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. This includes all student and employee records, forms, and processes. " Board Policy 19 (RDPSD)
