ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT: Students that accumulate 18 absences will receive a reduction of one credit due to the loss of instruction. Further absences will result in additional credit reductions.
PHYS. ED. 30 Recommendation: Due to the nature of this course and the safety issues that accompany it, students must receive the recommendation of their P.E. 20 instructors in order to register for P.E. 30. Students with a history of attendance and/or behaviour concerns many not receive this endorsement. If this is the case, a student may still enroll in this class but must successfully complete an interview with members of the P.E. staff and administration in order to be admitted into the class.
NOTE: CALM 20 (Career & Life Management) is a required course for graduation. ONLY available to grade 11 & 12 students.
LEADERSHIP & "TEAM HUNTING"
Students interested in scholarship opportunities are strongly encouraged to enroll in our Leadership classes. Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for these courses:
- have a minimum 60% average in the last 20 credits or equivalent (no mark below 50%)
- have an exemplary attendance record
This program is offered to students interested in developing leadership training, mentoring skills, communication skills, organizational skills, time management, and becoming involved with volunteer opportunities. Team Hunting will focus on School Spirit Activities, Social Justice, Community Action, Character Development, and Health Promotion. Students will develop and work on projects in and out of the school. Projects could included: mentoring programs, organizing school events/dances, fundraisers, talent shows, student/staff recognition, assisting at athletic tournaments, diversity days, and working on promotions for many of these activities.
NOTE: The curriculum of this course is covered through weekly meetings held outside of the timetable, and the practical component involves completing 75 hours of either school or community based leadership activities.
